Ahead of the crucial Boxing Day Test between India and Australia, ever-positive Gautam Gambhir has a word of advice for for the visitors who were bundled out for 36 in the second innings of the Pink-ball Test. The former opener has urged the Ajinkya Rahane-led to accepts the scars and face their fear in the second Test match at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Gautam Gambhir has stated that India are not the first team to get bowled out on 36, adding that the team should instead try to be proud of their extremely good show on the first 2 days of the series opener. The 39-year-old suggested India to move on from the Adelaide debacle and come out on guns blazing to make the nation proud.
“First of all we have to accept that there will be scars. The more you start hiding behind it, it will be tougher. You got to just face the fear, there will be fear tomorrow when you go on to the cricket field but this is where character comes into play as well. You have a great opportunity to show the word that yes it can happen to the best, it has happened to the best. It is not that India is the only side which got bundled out for 36. Many more sides who went on to become world champions. Australia were bundled out for low scored, New Zealand have done that, many other teams have done that,” Gautam Gambhir said in an exclusive interview with Youtube channel Sports Today.
“You have got another opportunity, not just one opportunity but three more opportunities or probably six more opportunities to play for your country and make your country proud. It’s a great honour when you walk into a cricket field, representing your country and making it proud. Bygones are bygones. You need to look at the positive side of it, that you managed to dominate 2 days. Yes, there were embarrassments, there will be scars but you played reasonably good cricket in 2 days. You could have dominated more and batted better than the first.” he added.
Further, Gambhir praised India’s bowling unit consisting of Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin. Calling it a “secure department” of Team India, Gambhir said that the attack was potent enought to bowl out Australia twice in a Test match. Gautam Gambhir also suggested India batsmen to be positive with their footworks.
One thing we need to realise is that India have the bowling attack to bowl out Australia two times in a Test match, which was never the case with previous teams. There were very good captains earlier also but unfortunately we did not have that kind of a bowling attack which can take 20 wickets and that’s why we struggled overseas. But when you have people like Jasprit Bumrah, Ashwin, Umesh Yadav is back, he bowled reasonably well in first Test and youngster — Navdeep or Siraj will come in. At least one department of your is very secure. It is all about going there tomorrow and believing in yourself. More importantly watching the ball and being positive in your footwork.
