Earlier this week, Barcelona star Lionel Messi created a new world record as he scored his 644th goal for Barcelona in their La Liga clash against Valladolid.

The feat achieved by Lionel Messi made him the player with the most goals for a single club in a career as he went past the previous record set by Pele who scored 643 goals for Santos.

Lionel Messi, considered one of the best players ever, has played for Barcelona ever since he started his playing career in 2005. Under him, the La Liga side have become one of the dominate clubs in the history of football.

In a unique tribute to the Barcelona star, the American beer company Budweiser has sent a personalized bottle to each of the goalkeepers he scored against. Each bottle has a corresponding goal in front of the label.

Former Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves has received 19 bottles as he is the goal-keeper Messi has scored the most goals against. Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is next on the list and he has received 17 bottles.

Messi thanks the fans

Earlier this week, Messi had posted an emotional message after the record-breaking goal.

“When I started playing football, I never thought I would break any records, especially the one I broke today, which was Pele’s. I can only thank everyone who’s helped me all these years, my teammates, my family, my friends, and everyone who supports me every day,” Messi wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

Following his record breaking goal against Valladolid, Pele himself came out and said that he admired Lionel Messi the most in his career.

“Congratulations on your historic record, Lionel. But above all, congratulations on your beautiful career at Barcelona.

“Stories like ours, of loving the same club for so long, unfortunately will be increasingly rare in football. I admire you very much, @leomessi,” Pele posted.
