India captain Ajinkya Rahane on Wednesday thanked fans for the love and support his team received after winning the Boxing Day Test against Australia in Melbourne on Sunday.
Team India put the horrors of Adelaide behind to register an emphatic 8-wicket win over Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to level the four-match series 1-1.
Rahane, who took over as captain from Virat Kohli after the first Test, led from the front with a hundred in India’s first innings which set up the game for them. The bowlers then stepped up and bowled out the hosts cheaply in both innings to seal victory for the team.
Rahane’s captaincy was much talked-about by pundits and fans with everybody hailing the Mumbai cricketer for inspiring the team to fight back after their humiliating 8-wicket loss in the series-opening Pink-ball Test in Adelaide earlier this month.
“I would like to express my gratitude for all the love and support we’ve received. The biggest reward for us as a team has been the ability to bring a smile on the faces of all those Indians that follow the sport.
“We continue to seek your support and good wishes as we work hard for the next two matches,” Rahane tweeted.

The touring team’s remarkable win in Melbourne comes after India scored a national-record low total of 36 in an 8-wicket loss in the series-opening Pink-ball Test in Adelaide just last week.
The third Test of the series will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 7 while the final match will be played at The Gabbe in Brisbane from January 15.
