The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly lauded Ajinkya Rahane-led Team India for their comeback win in the Boxing Day Test against Australia, saying it was a ‘special’ effort from the whole team at MCG.
Sourav Ganguly took to social media on Tuesday to laud the side and made a special mention to stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane, who made a match-winning hundred in the first innings.
“A special win at MCG ..India loves playing here ..well done Ajinkya rahane @ajinkyarahane88 ..good people finish first too..congratulations to all..@imjadeja@ashwinravi99 .best of luck for the next 2 games @bcci,” Sourav Ganguly tweeted.

Notably, this was India’s 4th Test victory at the MCG making it their most successful venue away from home. Previously they had won three Tests each at Queens Park Oval, Trinidad, Sabina Park, Jamaica, and at the SSC in Colombo.
The match belonged to Rahane, however, who took over the captaincy after the wreckage in Adelaide, with regular skipper Kohli returning to India for the birth of his first child. Rahane scored a brilliant 112 in India’s first innings 326 and superbly marshaled a rejigged side featuring four changes from the demoralized Adelaide 11.
Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin were the leaders of the bowling unit as the two not just gave India crucial breakthroughs but rallied around the other bowlers as India capped off a memorable win.
Not only did they outperform the hosts in all three departments in their own backyard, but India did all of this despite not having four of their main players in Virat Kohli, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav, who bowled 3.3 overs in the second innings before leaving the field with calf injury.
After India’s thumping win in the Boxing Day Test, the four-match series is level at 1-1. The Sydney Cricket Ground is scheduled to host the 3rd Test, starting January 7.
