Liverpool will end the year top of the Premier League despite firing blanks in a 0-0 draw at struggling Newcastle United on Wednesday.
Goalkeeper Karl Darlow pulled off a string of saves to help Newcastle hold Liverpool to a 0-0 draw as the defending champion’s vaunted attacking trio came up empty. All three missed chances they usually convert in their sleep and Liverpool’s final pass often lacked precision.
Liverpool has now won only two of eight league away games this season but still tops the table, three points ahead of Manchester United. However, Klopp will be satisfied with the current position after losing key central defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to season-ending injuries early in the campaign.

“The last thing I’m thinking about is our position in the table at the moment. It’s nice but it doesn’t mean anything,” Klopp said.
“We drew tonight and we are still top of the table so that just shows how difficult the season is for everybody. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
“We have to keep going, next game, Southampton, Aston Villa, Man United and that’s good we know about our responsibility. We didn’t get the result we wanted but it’s not the worst thing in the world, there are worse things happening.”
It was the only Premier League game played Wednesday after Fulham recorded a number of coronavirus cases and its match at Tottenham had to be postponed.
